July is Disability Pride Month!

Disability Pride Month is a time to celebrate the strength, diversity, and contributions of the disability community. It is also a time to advocate for accessibility, inclusion, and a world where people with disabilities are supported, valued, and seen as capable.
It is an opportunity to recognize disability as a valuable part of human diversity and to amplify the voices and experiences of people with disabilities.
The colors of the Disability Pride Flag represent different types of disabilities within our community. Physical disabilities, like cerebral palsy are represented by the red stripe. However, because every person’s experience with CP is unique, some individuals may identify with more than one stripe.
No matter what stage of your cerebral palsy journey you’re on, take time to celebrate your accomplishments. Every milestone—big or small—is worth recognizing. Whether you’re an individual with CP or someone supporting a loved one, know that you are part of a community that celebrates, supports, and stands with you.
This year Mark’s 36th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act or the ADA.Protecting accessibility and inclusion takes unified efforts from all of us.. Small actions can make a difference in creating communities where people with disabilities are supported, valued, and seen as capable. Consider volunteering with organizations that advance opportunities for people with disabilities, contacting your elected officials about disability-related legislation, or simply respecting the choices and independence of people with disabilities.
Throughout July, CP Next Step will be sharing stories, educational resources , and ways to get involved as we celebrate Disability Pride Month together. We invite you to follow along, learn with us, and join us in recognizing the incredible strength and diversity of the cerebral palsy community.
Happy Disability Pride Month from CP Next Step!
